Diversity Dashboard

Our vision for diversity and inclusion

We aim to foster a challenging and rewarding work environment that reflects the robust diversity of the communities in which we live and work and the clients we serve.

This strategy flows through every aspect of Acru. From the way we attract and select candidates to the way we develop employees and their managers, our goal is a vibrant and inclusive community which thrives on diverse talent. We know that diverse perspectives are a source of innovation critical to our long-term success.

Our initiatives to attract, select, develop, and retain diverse talent

Attract and Select

Diversity sourcing: Our Talent Acquisition team is actively using Entelo Diversity, the first search engine to allow recruiters to target diverse talent with specific skills and expertise.

Gender-neutral job descriptions: In October 2017, we revamped our job descriptions using Textio. Textio analyzes the language of job descriptions and pinpoints words that are gendered in tone.

The O-method for hiring: Our training for hiring managers focuses on spotting biases, creating objective interview scorecards, and learning how to hire individuals with unique, diverse perspectives.

Recruiting partnerships: We partner with Grace Hopper, ROMBA, NSBE, Howard University, Hour of Code, Women Who Code, & Girl Develop It.

Develop and Retain

Unconscious bias training: In September 2017, we instituted unconscious bias training for all employees, with additional training for hiring managers and recruiters. Training is also being provided to all new hires.

Leadership development: We launched a pilot program in October 2017 to accelerate the development of high-performing employees, the majority of whom are female or from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups.

Performance management: We've trained our HR team to identify and address potential biases in performance reviews to ensure that promotions are calibrated fairly.

Diversity champions: Diversity and inclusion is a company-wide initiative, and we are excited to have a team of internal activists to consult with on our diversity efforts.

Data Insight

How does Acru stack up to other companies?

In early 2014, a number of well-known companies released data on the gender and race of their employees. Since then, more companies have joined the conversation. While Acru resources, size, and location differ from some of our peers, these metrics help us benchmark our progress toward building a vibrant, inclusive workplace.

Note that the definitions of leadership and operational positions differ from company to company. Acru defines engineering positions as those that require a strong background in science or engineering, and/or involve the ability to code. We define leadership positions as director-level positions and above.

Relative to other companies, Acru has slightly more women in operational positions and slightly fewer women in leadership positions. In non-operational positions and overall company makeup, we match the industry average. These are significant improvements from where we were just one year ago.

The graph on the left illustrates how Acru compares to specific companies. While demographics reflect a wide range of factors, we can learn from companies with stronger metrics and adopt some of their practices. Links to each company's diversity metrics are listed at the bottom of this section.
