Shelley is a professional educator, facilitator, advocate, and compassionate leader who
approaches life with a curiosity, kindness, and an open mind. In 2009, Shelley began
facilitating workshops to First Nations communities in BC, international professionals,
youth, and post-secondary students. By 2012, she became a college instructor and a
community facilitator. She enjoys facilitating training in the areas of intercultural
leadership, intercultural communication, social justice (equity, diversity, inclusion and
anti-racism).
Shelley earned a Masters in Higher Education Administration and Leadership, and a
Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a minor in Sociology. Additionally, she
completed a BC Provincial Instructor Diploma in Adult Education, a Career
Development Practitioner Certificate, the UBC Certificate in Intercultural Studies (CIS)
Program and she is presently pursuing her executive coaching certificate.
Currently, Shelley works as a college instructor and a community facilitator where I
support students and clients through their career journeys as well as provide support
to enhance people’s confidence, communication skills and intercultural as well as
equity, diversity and inclusion awareness. Some of the organization that she facilitates
with include Inclusivity, Synergy on Boards, DIVERSEcity Community Resources Society and
UBC Extended Learning.
Shelley considers herself a lifelong learner and knowledge seeker. As someone who is
passionate about community development and projects that connect people as well as
amplify the voices and accomplishments of Black, Indigenous and People of Colour
(BIPOC), she is the co-founder of Kaiso Careers a platform and training company that
amplifies the voices and work of BIPOC people. Additionally, Shelley sits on the
following boards, The Langara Faculty Association, the Black Business Association of
BC (Advisory Board), as well as Sisters Leading Sisters (Advisory Board). She is also
an active member of Black CAN (formerly Black Voters Matter) and recently completed
work as a community advisory member to support the development of the City of
Vancouver’s Cultural Redress and Addressing Anti-Black Racism report.
When Shelley’s not caring for her young daughter, or teaching and supporting
community activism, she enjoys meeting new people, travelling and going for walks.
